CURRENT ISSUES IN GOLDEN GATE PARK

PARK TO GET BADLY NEEDED REPAIRS NOT!
Back in late 2007, the Rec and Park Board approved moving State Prop 40 funds (approved in 98) from projects that could not be completed in time with the allocated funds (2010) to projects that could. Those dropped were rehab'ing Mclaren Lodge and Kezar Pavilon. Those added were completion of the Concourse, repair to the Bandshell, repaving JFK to the beach, resurfacing the Polo Field, restoring the Roddy Dell, and a few others. To date Completion of the Concourse, excepting the fountains, is the only completed project.

But with the recent crisis with the State budget, a hold was placed on all state bonds and we understand that IF these funds are ever made available, it will be a couple of years. How the time limit of January 1 2010 effects the funds is not clear.

At least the ghost of John Mclaren is happy with the condition of JFK west to the beach as it certainly discourages use of park roads by commuters, or anyone else for that matter.

Park Neighbors and visitors should prepare themselves for
one HELL of a summer!

With the first summer for the new Academy of Science and the "blockbuster" King Tut exhibit at the deYoung, anyone expecting to use the streets in or around the eastern end of Golden Gate Park this summer might want to rethink it. Of course parking will be non-existant - - what's new - -but the experiences of the 08 holiday season don't bode well as the park and neighborhoods were inable to accommidate all the traffiic. Unless the city, PRD, and the institutions are ready to take some serious steps (and probibly even if) we might want to consider "Congestion Pricing" for the Inner Sunset and Park.
